About TUN

Touro University Nevada began as its parent, Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Vallejo, California, launched a branch campus in Henderson, Nevada which is composed of two colleges: College of Osteopathic Medicine and College of Health and Human Services. It is fully accredited by the Western Association of Colleges and Schools (WASC) as a branch campus of the California school. Currently, the California and Nevada campuses are completing their evaluation for re-accreditation with WASC.

TUN offers the following degree programs: DO (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine), and MSPAS (Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies), the BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing), MSN (Master of Science in Nursing), MSOT (Master in Science in Occupational Therapy), Entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (ELDPT), Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Education (MEd) in School Administration and Special Education Generalist, and Endorsement in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL).


Accreditation History and Programmatic Accreditation

Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine (Nevada)

In July 2003, Touro University Nevada received institutional approval from the Nevada Commission on Postsecondary Education (CPE) to grant the degree of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). In January 2004, the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the AOA approved the development of a branch campus of the TUCOM-CA in Henderson, Nevada. In May 2005, the COCA of the AOA approved the inclusion of TUCOM-NV within the scope of accreditation of TUCOM-CA.

In February 2004, the Nevada CPE approved degree authority to TUCOM-NV for the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. The program is accredited by The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant.


Touro University College of Health and Human Services (Nevada)

The planning of the Touro University College of Health and Human Services began in the Summer of 2004. The College proposed to develop health care and human service career programs in nursing, occupational therapy, and education. In May 2005, the Nevada Commission on Postsecondary Education granted full authorization to Touro University Nevada to offer the BS in Nursing, MS in Nursing, MS in Occupational Therapy, Master of Education and selected endorsements.

The School of Occupational Therapy applied to the Accreditation Council For Occupational Therapy Education, (ACOTE), in January, 2005 seeking Developing Program Status. In May 2005, ACOTE granted Developing Program status to the School of Occupational Therapy, and in December 2006 the program was granted full accreditation for 7 years. The School of Nursing received provisional approval by the Nevada State Board of Nursing in March, 2005 to grant the BSN and MSN degrees. Touro University Nevada School of Nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).The School of Education received approval from the Nevada Board of Education to grant the Master of Education (MEd) in School Administration and Special Education Generalist, Curriculum and Instruction, Language and Literacy, Secondary Education and endorsements in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) and Autism.

The School of Physical Therapy entry-level program has been granted Candidate for Accreditation status by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education of the American Physical Therapy Association (1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA 22314; phone: 703-706-3245; email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). Candidacy is not an accreditation status nor does it assure eventual accreditation. Candidate for Accreditation is a pre-accreditation status of affiliation with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education that indicates the program is progressing toward accreditation.
